My new book I am Indestructible! Selected Interviews with Oscar Wilde is now available for purchase.

In 2022 I edited Oscar Wilde: The Complete Interviews. The purpose of that collection was to reprint every interview Wilde ever gave. The previous estimate of the total number of Wilde’s interviews was 107; I was able, with the help of my fellow Wildeans (most notably John Cooper), to identify a further 123. As I also wanted to include interviews with members of Wilde’s circle that mentioned Wilde, as well as burlesque (fake, satirical) interviews, the collection was large: it ran to 942 pages and had to be split into two volumes.

Oscar Wilde: The Complete Interviews was conceived as a reference work for scholars, but I thought a selection of Wilde’s best interviews aimed at a wider audience of Wilde enthusiasts would be worthwhile. To that end, I have assembled a collection of 64 interviews that show Wilde at his wittiest and most forthright. They begin in 1882, when Wilde arrived in New York ahead of a year-long lecture tour of America, and end in 1900, when he was interviewed for the last time on his deathbed in Paris.

Reporters also found Wilde in his London home, strolling down Broadway or St James’s Street, lounging in train carriages, visiting a ‘lunatic asylum’, and even behind the walls of Reading Gaol. I am Indestructible! includes several interviews that have been rediscovered since the publication of The Complete Interviews.

I will be selling copies of this and my other books at the Oscar Wilde Society Luncheon on 6 June 2026, but I will probably only be able to bring books that have been reserved. For more information on how to reserve books, see here.
